7 Day Horse Trek

-Jumgal region, Kyrgyzstan

A group of people riding horses through a green valley surrounded by rolling hills.

Embark on a horse trek through the mountanous wilderness of Kyrgyzstan — a place where nature still rules. Over seven unforgettable days, we will ride far from concrete, paved roads, and electricity poles, exploring vast open steppes and high mountain valleys.

We gallop across wide open landscapes and set up camp under star-soaked skies, falling asleep to the sound of grazing horses and waking up with the sun. Along the way we visit my Kyrgyz friends in their yurts and you get to experience the nomadic life.
If you’re longing for freedom, adventure, and a true escape into the outdoors, this journey on horseback is for you!

Day 1-3: ‘my secret route’

You’ll meet your new hoofed companion, and for the first three days we’ll trek through a little-known region that is incredibly beautiful and untouched by tourism. To help preserve its authenticity, I like to keep the details of these days a bit mysterious. What I can share is that we’ll cross breathtaking landscapes, journey through nomad heartland, camp in the wild, and you will even get the chance to help herd livestock. You better start practicing your sheperds call!

Day 4 :
‘your first nigth in a yurt’

On our fourth day we cover the longest distance of the trek. Get yourself comfortable in the saddle and enjoy the ride. This is the perfect day to remenise about life. And maybe the best thing about this day…? —You get to find comfort in the cozy yurts of my friend Jeku at the end of the day ofter 3 nigths of camping in the nature. Warm hospitality and delicious food will be waiting for us!

Day 5 :
‘meet my Kyrgyz family’

In the morning we ride to the yurts of the Mirbekovs. A family close to my heart who have practically adopted me. Their yurts sit in a breathtaking location on the shores of Song Kul, the kind of place that makes you forget your home country and brings you fully into the moment..

To reach it, we’ll cross a 3,400-meter mountain pass on horseback. From the top, we’ll enjoy unforgettable views and may even spot vultures and eagles soaring overhead

  • → Song Kul lake

  • -yurt camp of the Mirbekov family

Day 6 :
‘experience the life of the nomads’

We spend a second night with the Mirbekov family, giving you the chance to truly connect with this special place. There’s plenty to do: we ride to a breathtaking viewpoint, enjoy some exiting gallops, swim in the lake, play volleyball, and experience the rhythm of Kyrgyz nomad life.

In the evening, you can look forward to traditional songs, shared stories, and lively games inside the warm, welcoming yurts.

  • -yurt camp of the Mirbekov family

Day 7 :
‘back to civilisation’

We ride back to the village of Kyzart, taking a different mountain pass that offers yet another round of spectacular views. At times, you might find yourself wondering whether you’re riding a mountain goat or a horse, given how effortlessly they navigate the steep trails.

Back in the village, we share our final lunch together before the adventure comes to an end. From here, you can choose to stay the night in a local guesthouse or continue your journey onward. If you stay I can invite you all to the local sauna. It is an amazing feeling after all that time in nature.

  • → Kyzart village

  • -in a guesthouse in the village or you travel onwards (optional and not inlcuded)

1 What´s included

Your horse, guides, 3 meals a day, the guesthouse in Kyzart the night before the trek, all accommodation in the yurts, tents and camping equipment such as cooking gear, water filter…

What’s excluded

Your flights, alcohol, your mandatory travel insurance, accomodation in the village Kyzart, transport to and from Kyzart, a sleeping bag and mat

2 Horse riding

The horse trek is 7 days. We ride for about 28 hours in total, around 3-6 hours a day.
The duration depends on how long we take breaks. We are not in a hurry, we can take our time in the beautiful nature.

Previous experience is not necessary. I use well-behaved, friendly horses that are used to having beginners on their backs. And they are trained to follow the group. And throughout trek I will be teaching the beginners. I will give you a horse according to your experience. Good riders get an active horse.

We will do a long distance horse trek, not a horse race. So we do 1 or 2 gallops a day.
This is because our horses have to carry us and our luggage over long distances 7 days straight at high altitude with low oxygen levels with a lot of climbing.
The horses I use are absolute athletes and can handle this challenge fine.
But my responsibility is to keep my horses fit and healthy and I only allow the amount of gallops the horses can handle.
